There’s something about home baking that just feels right...

Sure, the outcomes might not always look quite as perfect as something bought, but who wants perfect? In an age of ready meals, fast food and product overload, sometimes we yearn for the good old fashioned things.

Home baking is making a come back. And here’s why:

Quite simply, it tastes better. Much, much better. A store bought cookie or cake won’t fill your house with warm, mouth-watering aromas. It’s a fun activity to do with your children, teaching them invaluable life skills. You know exactly what’s in it (even if it is a whole pack of butter!) It takes far less time than most people realise. It’s cheaper. It’s really not that difficult.

But there’s more. And this is the important bit.

It’s a sanctuary for you. It’s comforting, absorbing, relaxing and stress relieving. Think going to the spa is cathartic? Try whipping up a tray of muffins for a calming, restorative and exceptionally gratifying time out.

It’s a creative outlet. Baking lets you unleash your inner artist.

It makes you feel like a good mum. A brave thing to admit, we realise, but without wanting to break any feminist rules, baking for your family makes you feel like a provider. Don’t believe us? Try it. It’s nostalgic. It forms a magical connection to the generations of mums and grandmums before us who did this, stirring up childhood memories. It’s a great way to get compliments – and who doesn’t need those from time to time - and have everyone think you’re a superwoman (we won’t tell them it’s actually not that hard). It’s an expression of love. Might sound sappy but it’s true. Food isn’t love, but the love is in the making of it.

Finally – it’s about eating cake. Need we say more? Happy baking!

Love, the Mumswhobake Team
